WHAT WE BRING · 商材
Matcha and Japanese tea
Grades meant for cafés, where the colour holds in milk and the taste survives being iced, and grades meant for drinking on their own.
Seasonings and pantry items
The part of a Japanese dish that is hard to reproduce locally, and the part a kitchen notices immediately when it changes.
Snacks and drinks
Packaged products for retail shelves, where the label, the shelf life left on arrival and the MRP decide as much as the taste does.
WE'RE LOOKING FOR · 募集
Chefs and restaurants
Kitchens putting a Japanese item on the menu and wanting the real ingredient behind it.
Cafés
Café groups building a matcha line that has to work across several outlets and stay consistent.
Retailers and supermarkets
Buyers who want a Japanese section that is more than instant noodles.
Food companies
Manufacturers looking for a Japanese ingredient, a licence or a partner to develop a product with.
IMPORT AND COMPLIANCE · 制度
Most Japanese makers stop at this point, which is why so little of what they produce reaches India. The rules are not difficult, but they decide the timeline and sometimes the product.
| The importer | Food can only be imported by a party holding the FSSAI Central Licence for the products concerned, together with an Importer Exporter Code. So Japan India Pvt. Ltd. holds an IEC; for food we work with an importer licensed for that category and manage the process around it. |
|---|---|
| Labelling | The label has to carry the mandatory declarations in English or Hindi, including the maximum retail price inclusive of all taxes. Getting this wrong is the usual reason a consignment sits at the port. |
| Veg and non-veg mark | The mark follows the definition in the food regulations, which excludes items such as milk and honey from being treated as non-vegetarian, and a separate list of products, such as alcoholic drinks and packaged water, is outside the labelling requirement altogether. |
| Registration of the Japanese factory | For five categories — milk and milk products, meat and meat products including poultry and fish, egg powder, infant food and nutraceuticals — the factory in Japan must itself be registered with FSSAI through the competent authority in Japan, on the ReFoM portal, before it can ship to India. A product outside those five does not need it, which is worth checking before you assume a long approval. |
| Shelf life | Arrivals have to land with enough life left on them to be sold, so the sea freight schedule has to be planned backwards from the expiry date, not forwards from the order. |
We put the landed cost in INR in front of you with duty, IGST and freight included, and we run a tasting with your team before anyone commits to a container.
